Yesterday, you made me proud.
You made me cry, America. You showed up, 14 million MORE of you than last time, and you put your foot down. You changed the face of this nation, from red to blue, and created a lasting possibility that we can finally be a part of the world instead of a lone wolf causing havoc.
You said, yes, we believe that we are destroying the world and the environment, and we are responsible for that. You stood up and decided that no longer will corporate greed dictate your 401K and your health care. You decided that people should be cared for without losing their homes and financial stability.
America, you took a good look around you and saw, instead of a sea of white faces, a whole nation of people who are different and beautiful. You learned that a mixed raced man with a middle name that scared so many is not the demon, is not the Boogey Man. You learned, I think, that sometimes it is that sea of white faces that becomes the very thing it is afraid of.
You made me cry, America.
Thank you.

12 beautiful people muttered something back:
An exciting night, indeed! It's nice to see that the Secrecy Sleeve was hiding the right choice.
God Bless America!
The people of our Nation said, "mission accomplished".
Wonderful post - I totally agree. I'm all schmoopy and proud today.
Thank you America.
Beautiful!
It was awesome to witness wasn't it? I can't remember being so happy to wake up an American.
Tough road ahead, but I hope those who didn't vote for him will be won over.
You made me cry on Tuesday as well, America. I hope President Elect Obama is at least half the deity he was made out to be. And how do we know he is not the Boogey Man? I saw him dancing with Ellen. Seems to me he could boogey.
Even so, I am not schmoopy. Were I at some point to become schmoopy, I probably would not realize it. I will remain schleptical. I do agree that a sea of white faces is scary.
On another note, glad to see that your mother seems to be headed toward recovery. Hopefully, she has experienced change we can believe in. (Bonus for me. That was a lingobama hat trick.)
America scared the crap out of me, but you know I'm willing and open to wait and see.
Phil "looks under the bed for Obama" - Behind Door # 3 is... a new car!!! (said in the gruffest of "Price Is Right" voices)
Donna - Indeed, woman. Indeed. I need some Donna face time, by the way.
Kimberly - Schmoopy, despite my "paloe" below, is an excellent description of the feelings of sweet victory.
Stephen - You're welcome! Now send me some figgy pudding!
Suzanne - No, you are.
Judy - You said it, sister. I think the Republicans will see that the other side is much more gracious and accommodating that they ever were for the past 8 years.
Old Pen Paloe Who is Fairly Transparent and Not-So Cloaked - Gripe, gripe. Moan, moan. I hope that made you feel better. It was amusing, at least. Gentleman farmer, come to the light.
Sorry I didn't visit your gentleman farm, but there were more pressing needs afoot.
Kim - Once we take off our "Scream" masks, we're all so much more approachable.
I stopped farming gentlemen years ago; there's not much of a market for them anymore; however, I am trying to raise at least one in-house.
"Pressing needs afoot" is an odd turn of phrase. Does this have something to do with wine-making?
I have not yet begun to gripe. And I will direct some of those gripes toward you, Colorado, you and your enlightened 9/364th electoral contribution. Of course, I will do so with my special brand of chipper vitriol.
