To the open prairie we go. I'd rather say that we're headed for the hills, but alas, we venture toward the empty vastness of the Colorado plains.
Why? Excellent question.
Phil has a two-nighter in Lamar, Colorado this weekend (he's a stand-up comedian, if you didn't know that already). That means we head straight for Kansas then divert south toward Oklahoma and Texas. There is no other reason to go there unless someone is paying you to do it, or you are getting the hell out of the state. Dollars lure us, so we are battening down the hatches and preparing the horses for a long, boring journey.
If Internet exists in southeastern Colorado, I'll give you a holler. I can't guarantee anything. It might still be 1945 there.
Did I mention that I'll wake up Mother's Day morning - my FIRST Mother's Day EVER - in Lamar, Colorado, home of the Savages? Yeah. I feel your jealousy.
On a side note, this here thingamajig called Imaginary Binky is featured as the first blog in today's installment of Five Star Friday. Woohoo! Five Star Friday bills itself as a collection of the best of what's being thought and said on the Web. Please visit the site and read the other incredible blogs that made the cut.
While I'm tootin' mah horn, this here blog contraption also made the cut for Alltop. Yay! Woo! Ding dang! Alltop is a collection of, as they say, all the top stories. I am in the Moms division, alongside some of the loveliest ladies you ever will cross your mouse wires with on Ye Olde Internet. I found some great blogs on the other topics, too. Be a good kid and visit some of those establishments as well.
Ya hear?
Have a good one, folks. Time to put on my bonnet. I'll meet you at the watering well.

14 beautiful people muttered something back:
Yes, indeedy, tonight it's the Antelope Night banquet at Lamar Community College and Saturday the Elks Lodge World Tour continues! If you find yourself in the Lamar area tomorrow, be sure to stop by.
And congrats to the imaginary binky for gaining global acclaim. Well done, lady!
Thanks for the mention!
As a fellow Coloradoan, I have never even heard of Lamar.
Can we still be friends? :-)
He'll bring down the house, I'm sure!
I would think, at the very least, Lamar will provide much in the way of blog fodder. Happy Mother's Day!
Lamar is home to not only the Best Western Cow Palace, but also the House Of Petrified Wood (as seen in Ripley's Believe It Or Not), now a used car dealership. It is also unpleasantly close to a ginormo feedlot, so as stanky as it will be, give thanks that you're not there in July.
Yeah, I have family in southwestern Kansas. The Lamar Burger King has clean bathrooms, so I stop there every time I drive down. Also close by is the Amache/Granada Japanese internment camp from WWII. Just in case you want to look into some of the darker side of our nation's history.
While on the road, should you hear anybody yell anything with the word "Custer" in it -- DUCK.
Congrats on Alltop and Schmutzie's Friday post! :)
Yay for having your blog featured on Five Star Friday and Alltop!
I'm sure Phil is knocking the socks off of the antelopes and elks. Hope you have a great trip!
Our Mother's day was in March!
It was two day before my Mam's birthday and yes she wanted two presents.
Lamar. Grew up there. Sorry you had to go. But at least you saw Lamar Days, I mean there's nothing better! :) Hope you survived (even the bed bugs-gross!)
Phil "should ask for directions" - Thank you, sir. I think you should make the horn sign for antelopes and elks, just to show them how cool you are about animal headwear.
Schmutzie - Right back atcha, lady!
Amber - If not knowing about Lamar causes me to dump my ladies, I am a sad sack. Indeed, you can still be my friend. Heheh.
Kat - You proved right, missy! Just look at all of the ridiculousness I wrote in the days since this post. Lamar was a goldmine of bloggy opportunity.
Tiddleywink - What a treasure trove of odd facts you are! Your comment made me look around a bit harder, and I discovered that crazy petrified wood place right across from our first motel! We didn't make it to the Japanese internment camp. Maybe I'll add that to next year's agenda.
LceeL - Wait. I like custard. Oh! You said Custer! Hahahaha.
Musing - Thank ya! You are too kind, m'lady.
Amanda - Thank ya! Phil rocked it both nights with his bad self.
Stephen - Yeah, you can't skip out on one holiday gift even if it comes dangerously close to another holiday. I always feel sorry for the kids whose birthdays are near Christmas.
Erin - You grew up there? Wow. I don't know whether to admire that or give you a sympathetic hug. Although, the small town I grew up in is actually much more pitiful. Let's cry together...
