Aside from the ugliness of the situation, sometimes nice things happen here.
Take Amos, for instance.
Today, the wee man had a taste of his first teething biscuit. A genuine cookie! Sure, it was organic and made of barley instead of wheat because I'm an anal mother who wants to avoid allergies... but still. He had a cookie.
Holy cow, is this boy happy.
He decided to anoint every object with his soppy cookie. He would suck on the biscuit, chew thoughtfully, then touch the cookie to some random object. Then, repeat the process. I guess this is like thanking the gods for providing such a bountiful and delicious snack from a box. Soon, I expect to see his stuffed monkey burning on an altar as an offering.
Did I mention that wine is delicious? Yes. It is.
Did I also mention that I almost booked a flight home today out of complete and utter frustration?
Oh, yes. I almost did.
I think it's time I sucked on a cookie, too.

16 beautiful people muttered something back:
Wine is good! Wow, you almost came home. Congratulations! Keep up the wine therapy and you'll really make it back someday! ;-)
Oooh, wine and cookies. Good combo.
Hang in there. I don't blame you for wanting to go home. You're so strong to stay as long as you have and put up with what you have.
FIRST BISCUIT... COOL
any teeth yet ? darcy lovvvves biscuits !!
Haha! This is the beginning of mysticism, for sure :-)
Amos leaving biscuit prints everywhere is probably the baby equivalent of pouring out a bit of your 40 in memory of fallen homies. So, yes, I'm saying that I think our child is in a gang.
Hang in there, lady, you're doing good work.
Teething biscuits = bathtime for Cora. The biscuits we have are cementlike when they dry. Cora loves biscuits AND baths, so I guess it's a win-win. Yay, Amos! Yay, Wine! Yay, Sarah! Hang in there - it is but a phase of life, not all of life...
I was thinking about what I wanted to comment here and my mind just went off on this whole rant about why they don't seem to make chocolate chip cookies like the used to when I was a kid, Everything has to have HUGE chunks and be soft and chewy and YUCK!!! Anyway, nice job Amos. Keep the Mom happy, O.K.?
Have you ever tasted a teething biscuit? I'm surprised children don't more frequently grow up and murder their parents. Glad you were able to muster the strength to not book the flight home. We're with you in our thoughts, if not physically.
Oh my...the first biscuit. Oy the mess the biscuit used to make in our house. We had to throw away a toy because of it. So sad.
Keep up with the wine...you need a relaxation technique...wine is a good one :D
If you need an Austin break, I'm here let me know.
You go AMOS!!!! (just dont burn the monkey)
I have been away too long. Missed so much, sorry.
I love the visual of Amos anointing things with the cookie. I wonder when exactly they stop doing that?
Ooo, cookies! What I would do for a stack of Oreos right about now... Yes, stack! And ice cold milk! That would hit the spot!
I think Elijah eats the same "cookies". We, too, started on the barley ones but now get the wheat. I tasted them and they aren't too, too bad. Not as good as an Oreo, but graham cracker-like.
Haha - I can imagine it clearly now. Little Amos taking his little stuffed monkey to an altar surrounded with such lush greenery.
Still keeping you in my thoughts! Keep chugging!
Seriously, your husband is freakin' hilarious! No one can top that comment. You should put Amos in a bandana from now on...lol.
Oh my, how I remember those biscuits and the happiness they brought! Happiness and a huge mess...of course. I found that microfiber towels wipe the little face clean with no effort at all.
First, hang in there! You are being incredibly brave and amazing.
Second: watch out for barley if you're concerned with allergies. I have the allergy to wheat, which is actually an allergy to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The allergy is called celiac sprue, or celiac disease. There is a ton of info on it out there, but also a ton of gluten free foods, thank goodness.
