Sad attempts at a casual family portrait

Sometimes, it pays to allow an uninvolved person to take the picture.

We went for a walk yesterday. It was quite lovely. Crisp, cool air, a baby with a witch hat, and two bundled up parents. Picture opportunity before the walk starts, right?

If only it were so easy.

Here you go. The Porters show off their poor camera skills. At least Amos is cute.

Horrible attempt at family portrait.

messed up family portrait

Take two.

take two

Better, but we're all bug-eyed.

better, but we're all bug-eyed

Not too bad on the parents, but we managed to cut Amos' head in two.

parents: good. baby: cutoff.

Definitely not quite right.

definitely not quite right

Getting warmer...

almost...

Excellent.
Except... Phil is not looking at the camera. And how do I jump into the shot without shaky camera action or bad lighting? ARGH!!!!

aha! smiles all around! (but Mom is missing)

Some day, we'll learn how to get it right.

I love how the one where his face is cut in two, you can tell he looks annoyed.

The second from the end, Phil look so 'over it.'

And you know, the last one? It's perfect that he's NOT looking at the camera. Better.

You get into the shot by buying a tripod and using the camera timer.

They are cheap!

You guys are cute. :-)

Ack, I have hardly any photos of the three of us together.

Maybe you should find a tourist to take the photo while you are on the walk?

I think these are perfect family portraits. I bet they'll bring more laughter to you later on than a serious studio shot.

I agree, ask someone to take your photo. People love to be asked, especially with a baby in the mix.

and

these are cute! They're real. Babies and animals are tough to capture. You did fine!

Sadly, we already own a tripod. We just don't know where it is. We have accomplished the having of the tripod, just not the using of said item since it has been lost. That is the part where we suck.

I've never liked asking people to take my picture. It is a weird hangup that I will need to get over, I suppose.

Maybe we will just go get some Glamour Shots. Amos would look smashing in a cummerbund. Phil always looks great when he puts his hand under his chin or does a power pose of holding a fist near his side, a la Dr. Phil.

Oh Amos is adorable in his pilgrim hat!!! I think the shots were cute, even if they weren't perfect. I didn't realize what big eyes Phil had! Such a lovely family!!

Hey, these pictures are great! Also, nobody was standing around in our house to take pictures of all three of us. The tourist trade in our living room has really dropped off lately. The cutest pics would have been of Amos in his harness zipped up in my jacket. Of course, we didn't have the camera then, when all the tourists were standing around pointing and laughing at us for not being able to find our tripod.
